Ziro Music Festival is a four-day celebration of independent music set against the breathtaking backdrop of Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh. First held in 2012, it has grown into one of India's most iconic outdoor music festivals — not for its scale, but for its soul.
Organized by the local Apatani tribe in collaboration with musicians and artists from around the country, ZFM is known for its eco-conscious ethos, non-commercial vibe, and strong sense of community.
The festival showcases a mix of genres like indie rock, folk fusion, electronic, and experimental — performed by both emerging and established artists from across India and abroad.

Ziro Music Festival began as a dream in 2012, brought to life by Anup Kutty and Bobby Hano. Despite rough roads, remote terrain, and financial hurdles in its early years, their passion and perseverance helped shape Ziro into a standout experience for music lovers and travelers alike.
By 2018, it had evolved into a much-anticipated annual gathering, known for its incredible vibe and intimate setting among Arunachal's green hills. What started as a music festival has gradually grown into a cultural celebration. Today, it offers more than music with nature walks, butterfly trails, yoga sessions, and village explorations, making it family-friendly and immersive.
In 2022, performances expanded to include tribal languages like Nyishi and Galo, alongside the launch of the Ziro Literary Festival, reflecting a deeper commitment to celebrating regional art and culture.

How to Reach Ziro Valley for ZFM 2026
Ziro Valley, tucked away in the mountains of Arunachal Pradesh, is accessible but requires some planning. Here's a quick guide on the best ways to reach this beautiful destination comfortably.
Please note:
Foreigners traveling to Arunachal Pradesh need a Protected Area Permit (PAP), and Indians need an Inner Line Permit (ILP), which you should arrange prior to your journey.
By Train
Most PopularTake the overnight Donyi Polo Express from Guwahati to Naharlagun. From there, shared taxis take 3 hours to reach Ziro.
By Air
Fly to Holongi (Itanagar), Lilabari, or Dibrugarh airports. Ziro is 3.5 to 5 hours away by road depending on the airport.
By Road
You can drive or take a taxi from Guwahati (9 hrs), Naharlagun (3 hrs), or Dibrugarh (5 hrs). Roads are beautiful but may be rough in patches.

Tips for First-Time ZFM Visitors
From surviving the mountain chill to respecting local customs—read this before you pack your bags for Ziro.
- Pack smart: Days are warm, but nights can get cold. Carry layered clothing, a raincoat, and gumboots.
- Stay charged: Carry a power bank and dont rely on strong network coverage it can be patchy.
- Cash is king: ATMs are limited and may run dry keep cash for local eats and transport.
- Dont forget your ILP or PAP: Permits are mandatory to enter Arunachal. Get them in advance.
- Try the local food: Ziro has a beautiful mix of tribal cuisine, momo, and rice beer soak in the full experience!
- Be respectful: Ziro is a tribal region be mindful of local customs and keep the valley clean.
Permits Youll Need to Attend ZFM
To enter Arunachal Pradesh whether for Ziro Music Festival or any other trip youll need one of the following official permits depending on your nationality:
For Indian Citizens (Non-Arunachal Residents):
You must obtain an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit Ziro. You can get it:
- Online via the official Arunachal ILP portal
- Or offline from state government offices in Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, and Lakhimpur
For Foreign Nationals:
A Protected Area Permit (PAP) is required to enter Arunachal Pradesh. This can be obtained from:
- Any Indian Mission abroad
- FRRO offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata
- Chief Immigration Officer, Chennai
- Or directly from the Home Ministry (India) or Home Commissioner, Arunachal Pradesh
