Encamp Adventures Offsets 6,000,000 kg of CO₂e, Making Travel Climate-Aware
On October 24, Encamp Adventures marked its climate-awareness initiative by offsetting 6,000,000 kg of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e), a step the company says shows how travel experiences can connect customers with measurable climate action.
In a travel industry where customers increasingly have the opportunity to choose how and where they travel, the question is no longer only where to go, but how. Encamp Adventures is building a proposition that goes beyond conventional tour packages, integrating responsible tourism and carbon offsetting into the customer experience and giving travellers another reason to choose a journey that aligns with their values.
For the company, sustainability is not meant to be a separate product or an afterthought. It is an opportunity to make the travel experience more meaningful, transparent and distinctive.
Climate action as part of the journey
Travellers have traditionally bought a package based on destination, accommodation, activities and price. Encamp Adventures is working to add another dimension: helping customers understand the climate impact of their journey and connecting that experience with carbon-offsetting efforts. The aim is to make responsible travel more tangible, rather than limiting sustainability to general statements about protecting nature.
A concrete milestone

For customers, this creates an opportunity to take part in a travel experience with a climate-action component. For the business, it offers a differentiated proposition in a competitive tourism market.
Supporting a diverse range of climate solutions
Encamp Adventures has identified five projects that represent different approaches to climate mitigation:
• Agricultural waste to biogas
• Cattle dung biogas to power
• Wind energy
• Solar energy
• Run-of-river hydropower

What 6,000,000 kg of CO₂e really means

A responsible approach to carbon credits
The company’s approach to carbon credit sourcing prioritises environmental integrity, social responsibility and transparent governance. Through projects listed on the UCR platform, it aims to move beyond traditional interpretations of the additionality test, which often focuses on whether a project would have taken place without carbon finance, and to place greater emphasis on demonstrable positive impact.
At the heart of this approach is the principle of “Do No Harm.” Projects considered for inclusion are expected to avoid adverse impacts on local communities and the environment while contributing to responsible, sustainable development. Environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations are a key part of how eligible projects are evaluated.
Rather than relying solely on hypothetical counterfactual scenarios, the framework supports eligible green projects drawn from a predefined list of activities, with an emphasis on environmental benefits, social safeguards and responsible implementation.
Fossil-fuel exclusion is another important principle: projects covered by this approach do not rely on coal or other fossil fuels. The platform also does not set aside carbon credits as buffer reserves to insure against future calamities or unforeseen events, which reflects a distinct approach to credit issuance and project design.

Encamp Adventures is incorporating blockchain-based mechanisms into its offsetting approach to support digital traceability of relevant records. The ambition is to strengthen customer confidence by making the climate-action component more transparent and easier to substantiate.
The technology has limits, however. Blockchain supports traceability but does not independently certify environmental impact, and the underlying credits still need appropriate project verification and retirement evidence. Over time, the company says, this approach could support a stronger digital record connecting travel-related climate claims with supporting documentation.
Open to companies of every size
The company says it is open to working with small companies working on carbon traceability, as well as with large companies in the same field. By keeping the approach safe for the environment and open to participants of all sizes, it hopes to make credible climate action more accessible.
Why this matters for customers
Encamp Adventures is working towards a travel experience in which customers can enjoy destinations, local cultures, outdoor adventures and accommodation while also engaging with the environmental consequences of their choices. Its approach is designed to make responsible travel more accessible and understandable through three connected ideas:
• Travel: explore destinations and experiences that customers value.
• Climate action: connect journeys with carbon-offsetting initiatives.
• Traceability: support the climate-action claim with appropriate digital records and evidence.

The business opportunity
Embedding climate action into the customer journey also represents a potential point of differentiation beyond price and destination. The company believes the approach could help it:
• Build a recognisable responsible-travel proposition
• Appeal to travellers who value sustainability and meaningful experiences
• Strengthen brand trust through better documentation of environmental claims
• Develop opportunities in corporate travel, institutional partnerships and sustainability-conscious group experiences
• Create a foundation for future digital reporting and climate-impact communication
These are strategic opportunities rather than guaranteed outcomes. Their commercial value will depend on customer demand, execution, credible evidence and the ability to scale the approach sustainably.
October 24: a milestone in a climate-aware travel vision
The offset is a concrete milestone in the company’s effort to connect travel with climate awareness. More importantly, it communicates the direction in which the company wants to develop: a travel experience that considers not only where customers go, but also how their journeys relate to the world around them. As the travel sector evolves, Encamp Adventures sees an opportunity to demonstrate that exploration and environmental responsibility can be part of the same experience.
Where travel goes next
The 6,000,000 kg offset is a milestone, but for Encamp Adventures it is a starting point. Offsetting will not make travel emission-free, and the company is clear about that. What it can do is make journeys more accountable: backed by credible projects, supported by traceable records and open to partners of every size. As travellers ask more of the companies they choose, Encamp Adventures believes the future of travel lies in journeys that are enjoyed fully, measured honestly and backed by records anyone can check.
Our vision is simple - “make every journey more meaningful, make climate action more transparent, and help travellers leave a positive footprint.”
